A photo of multiple highway lanes at night. The yellow lines and street signs are lit against a grey and black background. The highway lacks cars indicating an inward journey, not a physical one.
An empty highway indicates an inner journey, not a physical one — Photo by kimi lee on Unsplash

Roadside stranded
all these years
lacking gainful aid
one hand planted on my hip
the other, extended thumb
suppressed fears
travel charades
hitching rides to paradise
but the yellow lines always blur
drivers exhaust many a tip
responses — near-to-numb
